A Middletown organization built for the hard Tuesday nights

We started because crisis rarely keeps office hours — and because neighbors deserve more than a voicemail when the lights are about to go out.

From a kitchen table in Middletown to a public charity

HOPE CHARITY FOUNDATION NFP took shape in June 2022, when Principal Officer CHARLES AFFUL and a small circle of neighbors began answering late-night calls from families who had nowhere else to try. Some needed a counselor before panic turned into a worse night. Others needed rice, diapers, or a bridge payment so they would not lose a lease.

The IRS recognized us as a tax-exempt public charity under IRC Section 501(c)(3), with exemption effective June 1, 2022, and a determination letter dated March 13, 2023 (EIN 92-2722318). We file Form 990-N as a small organization and keep our books ready for Form 990 if revenue grows.

Our longer roadmap is simple: keep the helpline staffed, expand Tuesday meal prep with local food-bank partners, and grow mentoring cohorts so teenagers in Orange County have adults who keep promises. We are not trying to become a slogan. We are trying to be reachable.

How we decide what to do next

Compassion

We answer without ranking whose crisis “counts.” Dignity is not a reward for paperwork.

Integrity

Board minutes, conflict disclosures, and donor records stay accurate — even when no one is watching.

Direct Impact

Prefer a meal delivered Tuesday over a vague promise of “community transformation.”

Radical Transparency

EIN, officer names, and the 88/8/4 fund split live on this site for anyone to check.

Community First

Local partners, first responders, and food banks shape our schedules — not vanity metrics.

What Google Ad Grants reviewers — and neighbors — can verify

We publish the same identity that appears on our IRS Letter 947 and Form 990-N e-Postcard filings. Donors can deduct contributions under IRC Section 170 to the extent allowed by law. We never sell or rent donor lists.
